Walker Township is a township in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,747 at the 2000 census. The township includes the village of McConnellstown.

History

The Robb Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.[1]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 18.8 square miles (48.6 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,747 people, 683 households, and 523 families residing in the township. The population density was 93.0 people per square mile (35.9/km²). There were 735 housing units at an average density of 39.1/sq mi (15.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.51% White, 0.46% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.17% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.06% of the population.

There were 683 households out of which 31.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.9% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.3% were non-families. 20.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 2.94.

In the township the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $43,516, and the median income for a family was $45,652. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $22,875 for females. The per capita income for the township was $19,785. About 2.5% of families and 3.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.0% of those under age 18 and 1.5% of those age 65 or over.
